Back to back weeks in the mountains
Sometimes the best reset isn’t found in a perfectly planned itinerary—it’s found somewhere between mountain roads, alpine lakes, and a little extra time to simply breathe.
The past two weeks have been exactly that for us.
With wedding weekends slowing down for a brief moment, we packed our bags, loaded up the camera gear (because let’s be honest, that never stays home), and traded wedding timelines for winding mountain highways. Our adventure began beneath the towering peaks of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where we spent our days exploring the incredible Grand Tetons, chasing sunrises, spotting wildlife, and soaking in some of the most breathtaking landscapes we’ve ever experienced.
From there, we headed back home just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July surrounded by the pine trees and cool mountain air of Lake Arrowhead. After months of busy wedding weekends, it was the perfect reminder that slowing down every once in a while fuels the creativity we bring to every couple we photograph and film. We’re squeezing in one final summer getaway to Lake Havasu this upcoming weekend before wedding season kicks back into full gear. Then it’s right back to what we love most—capturing love stories across Southern California and beyond.
While weddings will always be at the heart of what we do, we also believe the adventures between wedding days shape who we are as storytellers. 5 Must-See Places in Grand Teton National Park (Especially If You’re Traveling with Kids)
After spending several days exploring Grand Teton National Park as a family, we quickly realized why so many people return year after year. Towering mountain peaks, crystal-clear lakes, wildlife around every corner, and countless places to let kids explore make it one of the most family-friendly national parks in the country.
If you’re planning a trip to Jackson Hole and the Tetons, here are five places that absolutely deserve a spot on your itinerary.
1. Schwabacher Landing
If you only make one sunrise stop in Grand Teton National Park, make it Schwabacher Landing.
On calm mornings, the Teton Range reflects perfectly across the Snake River, creating one of the most iconic views in Wyoming. The short walking trails are flat and stroller-friendly, making them great for families with younger children.
Keep your eyes open for beavers, moose, ducks, and other wildlife that are commonly spotted along the water.
Family Tip: Arrive shortly after sunrise for cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and the best chance of seeing wildlife.
2. Mormon Row Historic District
No visit to the Tetons is complete without stopping at Mormon Row.
The historic barns with the towering Teton Mountains rising behind them have become one of the most photographed locations in America. Kids enjoy exploring the old homestead while parents can capture incredible family photos.
Early morning or golden hour offers the softest light and the fewest visitors.
Family Tip: Bring snacks and let the kids stretch their legs while you take in the incredible scenery.
3. String Lake
If you’re traveling with children, String Lake may become your favorite stop in the park.
The shallow, crystal-clear water warms much faster than the larger lakes, making it one of the safest and most enjoyable places for kids to splash, swim, skip rocks, or float. There are also gentle walking trails surrounding the shoreline that are perfect for little explorers.
Pack a picnic and plan to spend several hours here.
Family Tip: Bring water shoes, inflatables, towels, sunscreen, and lunch. This is an easy place to spend half a day.
4. Jenny Lake
Jenny Lake is one of the crown jewels of Grand Teton National Park.
Whether you choose to ride the shuttle boat across the lake or hike along the shoreline, you’ll be surrounded by some of the park’s most spectacular mountain views. Families with older kids can continue on to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point for an unforgettable adventure.
Even if you don’t complete the hike, simply enjoying the shoreline is worth the visit.
Family Tip: Arrive early in the morning to avoid parking challenges during the busy summer season.
5. Oxbow Bend
Oxbow Bend is one of the best places in the park to watch wildlife.
Moose, elk, bald eagles, river otters, pelicans, and even bears are occasionally spotted here. The calm waters also create another beautiful reflection of Mount Moran, making it one of the park’s most scenic viewpoints. Because it’s located directly off the main road, it’s an easy stop with young children who may not be up for a long hike.
After soaking in everything Grand Teton National Park had to offer, we made our way back home for a few days before packing our bags once again—this time for a much shorter drive up the mountain to Lake Arrowhead. Sometimes you don’t have to travel across the country to find a little peace and quiet, and spending the Fourth of July surrounded by towering pines, cool mountain air, and family was the perfect way to recharge.
It’s been such a refreshing change of pace before wedding season picks back up. These little adventures remind us why we love documenting life’s biggest moments—whether it’s a couple saying “I do,” a family making memories on vacation, or simply slowing down enough to appreciate a beautiful place together.
We have one more quick getaway planned to Lake Havasu before we’re back in full wedding mode, cameras in hand, capturing incredible celebrations all across Southern California and beyond.
