Summer Beach Engagements | Summer Love - La Jolla, Ca
The beach is where Kyle proposed to Lauren and their love story grew stronger, so it was an easy decision for us to take their engagement photos here in La Jolla. With water temperatures reaching 80 degrees, it was a no brainer to jump in the water after an engagement session at sunset. Lauren and Kyle recently got engaged in Torrey Pines, San Diego and we could not be more excited to shoot their wedding next year at Forever and Always Farms in Temecula, Ca. We've known these two love birds for a while and when they decided to hit us up we knew right away we would be a perfect fit for them. They have this extremely contagious energy that makes moments like these below worth sharing for you all to see. For many, taking engagement photos is not a daily routine, and these two were so natural and playful! If you enjoyed the photos as much as we do; feel free to share, comment, tag etc. etc. Xox.
Thanks to our friends at Two Bright Lights, here is a question-air for their publication.
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
A: We actually had gone to the same high school and graduated the same year but had never met. About four years after high school a mutual friend set us up. I guess you could call it a modern day "blind date" since we had only seen a picture of each other.
Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
A: We definitely took our time getting to know one another over the years. It has been almost six years and will be about seven when we say "I do". We are trying to do life in a practical and smart way without rushing things. We are building our relationship on a strong foundation. Finishing up college and figuring out our careers is a top priority for us. We both are driven to be successful in life. We don't want just average. We enjoy being homebodies but also enjoy the outdoors. Any vacation or date usually involves some type of outdoorsy type of activity. We both push each other to be a better version of ourselves and support each other with anything and everything. Our personalities are quite opposite, but they say opposites attract. It's working for us! :)
Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
A: Well...I wouldn't say it was love at first sight. We don't necessarily believe in that. However, he definitely had me when he sent a text saying "Look on your front porch". He knew I had been sick and when I opened the door he had left a can of chicken noodle soup, a sprite, and flowers. I would say a few months in I knew I loved him. But he said "I love you" first :) We were basically inseparable and still are.
Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
A: The proposal happened on my 26th birthday. Apparently, Kyle had been planning this for quite some time and had done a walk thru of the day a couple weeks before he popped the question. He of course had asked for my dad's approval first and asked if my dad wanted to be involved on that day. Family is extremely important to Kyle so this made sense. My dad said "yes" and so the planning began. Kyle included his family and mine on that day. He told me we were going on a hike at Torrey Pines in San Diego. I love hikes by the beach so I was super excited. We had invited my sister and his sister to go with us that day. I had absolutely NO idea what was about to happen. I had no makeup on and my hair was still wet from when I showered that morning. When we got to the point of the hike where the cliff looked over the ocean I looked down to a "Will You Marry Me?" sign that both of our dads were holding down on the beach. I'm pretty blind (even with my contacts in) so I couldn't tell who was holding it and when Kyle pointed to it I thought "Oh how cute! Someone is getting proposed to." I still had no idea it was for me! Then he grabbed my hands and had a whole speech (that I don't remember) besides the part where he said "Your the peanut butter to my jelly". It was all a blur since I was in complete shock. He definitely did an amazing job at surprising me that day and it made me so happy that both our families were there to celebrate that day. I wish I could relive that day less shocked so I could enjoy it all over.
Q: We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
A: My ring is amazing!! He customized it all on his own. I really didn't know the style I wanted, but what he picked for me was perfect and beautiful. It is a round cut with a halo and diamonds on the band. Stunning!!
Q: Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
A: Our engagement is about two years. We are down to the final one year countdown now and we are getting more excited that the real planning has begun. We have the date, venue, and a few of the other vendors booked so far. The big things are basically out of the way. This last year has flown by and I know this year will go by so fast too! August 3, 2019 can't come fast enough!
If you are looking for a beach engagement photographer in San Diego send us a message, we would love to take photos of you and your fiancé. With the weather perfect year round, we are able to get out and shoot during any month. Check out a few of our favorite locations here for more ideas! If you are from out of state and looking to elope or have a destination wedding in San Diego there are a variety of locations to choose from. From weddings on the beach, to elopements in the mountains the opportunities are endless. Our favorite locations for engagement and wedding photos are Encinitas, La Jolla, and Pacific Beach. North County offers incredible venues, but also incredible beaches with tons of vacant areas to host your wedding. La Jolla is also one of the most beautiful spots in Southern California showing off the crystal blue water and incredible coastline with rocks darting out into the ocean. With many couples choosing La Jolla (most often Windansea) as their wedding site, many overlook Pacific Beach. As photographers in Pacific Beach we love the different ideas for weddings on the beach. If small intimate weddings on the beach are your thing, message us and we would be stoked to share our ideas with you. Lauren and Kyle had their engagement photos taken in a community called Birdrock which is between La Jolla and Pacific Beach which often is the perfect place to avoid tourists and take engagement or wedding photos.
