Encinitas engagement photos // Michael & Shelby
A few weeks ago we hit North County to take engagement photos in Encinitas for Shelby and Michael. Here’s a look at a few favorites, so stoked for their wedding later this year!
Encinitas is one of our favorite beaches in San Diego, since high school its been one of our go to cities to get out to and hang out at. Since moving down to Pacific Beach, most of our engagement shoots are down south often hitting Sunset Cliffs or the coves in La Jolla. It was awesome getting back up here and taking engagement photos in Encinitas for Michael and Shelby!
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
A: Mike and I met in college at the University of San Diego, though we didn’t start dating until a couple weeks before graduation. Fast forward five plus years, and we’re engaged!
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
A: I think what makes our relationship work so well is that we both genuinely love spending time together whatever it is we are doing, whether I be grocery shopping, going to the beach, or grabbing drinks with friends. We just have more fun when we’re together.
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
A: I knew Mike was the one when I realized that not only do I like who he is out in the world, but also who he is within the confines of our home when there are no outside pressures to influence the way we act.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
A: Mike proposed when we were both in my hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was there for work, and I decided to tag along so I could see my family who still lives there. He was in touch with my parents and older brothers trying to figure out a good spot to do it. We were walking to dinner downtown along the canal, and that’s where he popped the question! I was very surprised and very, very happy.
We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
A: The ring is perfect. It’s a solitaire radiant-cut diamond with a thin white gold band.
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
A: We are getting married in San Diego in September 2020! We are so excited and planning has been so much fun.
There are so many epic places to take engagement photos In San Diego. We were just talking the other day how we wish we could do more types of engagement shoots in crazy places like Utah and have the flexibility to hit places like Moab and Zion and tons of other slot canyons, and then we realized well we do have some pretty epic places. We have the freedom to explore some of the best beaches in the country up and down the California coastline; to have the beaches at our fingertips like this is amazing! And just a couple hours away we have have Anza Borrego, Joshua Tree and so many other unique desert and mountain views to hit. If you are down to explore a little outside of Southern California and want to hit some more unique travel locations for your engagement photos we are ready to go!
