Fall engagement photos in La Jolla

Where do we begin... Sam and Molly are some of the most genuine people we have met and can not wait for their wedding next year in Milwaukee Wisconsin. We met Sam and Molly at Zack and Nicoles wedding who we recently shot at Secluded Gardens. After talking to them further, we set a time for when they would be back here in California to take engagement photos. Sam and Molly could not have picked a better time to come visit, with fall in full swing we hit the trails at Marian Bear Memorial Park and made it to Scripps Pier just in time for sunset. Take a look at a few favorites from their engagement shoot and read about how they both met, Congrats guys!

Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet? We were introduced by mutual friends when we were in college. When we first met, I had no idea who he was! But little did I know, he had had his eye on me since my freshman year and finally asked me out his last semester at Trinity. We dated through his last semester and just never stopped going on dates :)

Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique? The very first thing that drew me to Sam was the way he became completely intoxicated by live country music. We’re both captivated by the simple rhythm of life it celebrates, and our schedule basically revolves around Wisconsin’s country concert circuit. We love quick weekend escapes to places we’ve never been, we love wine, and we love laughing with our favorite people over good food as often as possible.

Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always). I was pretty sure after our first couple dates. I remember telling my girlfriends that I felt completely insane and may have been losing my mind but that I had this crazy feeling that I had just been on my last first dates, & Sam felt the same!

Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process? Well, I thought I was going out to Buffalo Wild Wings with Sam and a few of his friends from football, but when I got there his friends started me on a scavenger hunt that took me back to where we had our first date and eventually to the shore of Lake Michigan where he got down on one knee & I said yes! When I got back to my apartment, Sam just kept the surprises coming with family and friends from all over the Midwest who had drove down for the weekend to celebrate us that night. I had never felt so insanely special in my entire life.

Q: Tell us all about that ring! Eek! My ring is a rose gold halo with a delicate band of smaller diamonds. It’s sparkly as can be and the rose gold gives the diamonds the most beautiful blush hue right around sunset each night. It takes my breath away every time.

Q: Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet? Yes yes yes!! I love planning parties of absolutely any kind, so planning a party the size of a wedding is a dream come true for me. Soothing, even. We will be getting married in a white barn in a little town north of Milwaukee, WI. We’re filling our day with all our favorite things: barbecue, music, and our people. We’re over the moon about the wedding and I have no idea how we’re going to stand this much excitement over the next few months.

Being able to coordinate locally with couples is amazing! Being able to coordinate with couples out of town, as stressful as some may think, makes it just as fun if not more! When planning a destination wedding there are obvious choices like the dj, dress atire, florals etc. but one option that couples are sometimes on the fence about is their wedding film. After our own wedding we realized how crucial wedding films are, videos capture moments that you may have forgot about. Videos help document your wedding differently than wedding photos do, the reactions of your mom when you first put on your dress, or the speeches from your grandparents, these are moments that when highlighted in your wedding film make you so glad you went with one.
